We are often asked about what makes a doctor of chiropractic (DC) different from a medical doctor (MD). Both a DC and MD require extensive schooling and board certification. However, there are some significant differences. Our next series of articles will contrast the roles of a chiropractor (DC) vs. a medical doctor (MD). Let’s get started:
A medical doctor often concentrates on the body part(s) and symptoms the patient is experiencing. Chiropractic care, on the otherhand, is a modality that concentrates on whole-body wellness. Medical doctors treat your symptoms. Chiropractors dig deep to find the source of your issue(s). This often involves a whole body wellness approach which may include evaluating diet, allergies, areas of pain, posture, nervous system and any other areas that may be associated with the root cause.
When you present pain to a medical doctor, they often prescribe drugs to help alleviate the symptoms. A chiropractor will instead develop a customized treatment plan which utilizes various hands-on therapies to address your pain. Some of these may include spinal disc compression relief, cupping, massage therapy, laser therapy and more.
Our next article will cover more differences between a doctor of chiropractic (DC) and a medical doctor (MD).
