Poor posture has a negative impact on the body, especially over time. It is important to address posture issues as early as possible to prevent major problems down the road. Our chiropractor and massage therapy practitioners deal with numerous patients whose pain is rooted in poor posture. Our next series of articles will cover some of the primary issues caused by poor posture.
Our spinal discs degenerate naturally as we age. Degenerative disc disease is a condition where the body’s natural disc degeneration process is accelerated. This can be due to injury, accidents, and genetics, but the main culprit is poor posture. The reason why degenerative disc disease is so detrimental is because it can cause problems with the rest of the spine and back, often resulting in limited range of motion, chronic and severe pain, and osteoarthritis.
Poor posture can result in rounded shoulders which not only impact the body’s appearance, but overall health. As the shoulders become accustomed to being hunched forward, the body begins to interpret this as “normal”. This can cause stress on joints and result in chronic neck, back, and shoulder pain.
Ultimately, poor posture will misalign your spine causing problems such as pain, numbness and muscle spasms. This often results in the need for chiropractic adjustments and massage therapy.
Our next article will cover more consequences of poor posture.
